OverSight is a privacy-focused macOS app that monitors microphone and webcam usage, alerting users in real-time. It benefits privacy-conscious individuals and those concerned about unauthorized hardware access.

Monitors the internal microphone and webcam, alerting users when they are accessed.

Maturity: The project is active with regular updates and a strong open-source community, though it has some unresolved issues.

Community: Community sentiment is mixed, with appreciation for its privacy features but concerns about UI bugs and performance issues.

Pros

  • + Privacy-focused monitoring of microphone and webcam usage
  • + Real-time alerts for unauthorized access
  • + Open-source with active development

Cons

  • - No auto-update feature
  • - Some open issues regarding functionality and performance
